Ayurvedic Marma Massage

Ayurvedic Marma Massage, Abhyanga and Shirodhara in Nairn.

Highland Ayurveda offers traditional Ayurvedic massage therapies adapted to the individual. I select techniques and herbal oils based on your Ayurvedic constitution, comfort and preferences in mind. Sessions may include warm-oil Abhyanga, traditional Marma point massage, Pinda Sweda or Shirodhara. Ayurveda traditionally understands Marma as vital points associated with prana and the body–mind relationship. Many people choose these therapies for relaxation, a sense of ease, and time to reconnect with themselves. Benefits of Ayurvedic Massage include increased immunity, lymphatic drainage, reducing the signs of ageing, relieving anxiety and depression and helping with trauma healing. The aim is to help to balance the doshas to remove toxins for whole-person healing.

Rejuvenating Abhyanga Massage

In today’s fast-paced world, stress, fatigue, and poor lifestyle choices have become common, leading to low energy, poor circulation, muscle stiffness, and imbalanced health. Abhyanga is a therapeutic full-body rejuvenation massage performed with warm medicated herbal oils, chosen based on your dosha (body constitution). It is more than a massage— a deeply nourishing, detoxifying, and rejuvenating therapy that balances the body, mind, and spirit. This includes Chakra massage and energy healing with targeted Marma Massage Points.

Ayurvedic Pain Relief Massage Therapies

There are a variety of traditional Ayurvedic therapies for musculoskeletal issues, arthritis and joint/muscular pain. Depending on the issue, warm Ayurvedic oil is either poured into a dough ring and placed on the spot of pain or discomfort, or it is kept in place with a cotton wool picchu. The deep heat therapy of the oil radiates through the muscles, releasing tension and stiffness. Helpful in acute and chronic back pain, prolapsed disc,  spondylitis, sciatica, degenerative disorders, osteoporosis, arthritis, leg pain, hip pain and spinal cord compression. Also effective for neck, knee, foot and hand pain, where cotton wool picchu, herbal poultices or herbal foot soak may be used. Best results with 3 - 7 sessions. This is available to be booked as a single treatment or in addition to another treatment.

Shirodhara and Healing Head Massage

Shirodhara is a technique that uses warm oil poured in a gentle stream over the forehead. This is a profoundly relaxing as it works to calm and pacify the central nervous system stilling the mind and senses. This allows stress to be released and to enhance natural healing. The oil is then massaged into your head with key marma point massage to finish.Recommended for those with  high levels of stress, insomnia, anxiety, and Vata imbalances.

Shirodhara primarily influences the central nervous system, particularly the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and autonomic nervous system. The forehead or Third Eye region has a high concentration of nerve endings and is linked to the pineal gland, which regulates melatonin production—the hormone responsible for sleep.

The continuous stream of warm oil activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline) and promoting relaxation. The gentle oil flow induces a meditative state similar to the effects of deep meditation and yoga, lowering brainwave activity from beta (active) to alpha (relaxed state). Shirodhara is a natural and effective therapy for insomnia and sleep disturbances, working by regulating melatonin and calming the nervous system.

Begins with a shoulder and neck massage and finishes with a head massage with key marma points. This is available on its own or with any of the other massages.

Best results with 3-7 sessions.
