Ayurvedic Marma Massage
Highland Ayurveda is now offering traditional, healing Ayurvedic Marma Massage, Pinda Sweda and Shirodhara. Ayurvedic Marma Massage is very different to other forms of massage because it is specific to the person, focusing on the individual constitution and oils according to the imbalance. Ancient massage techniques (tapping, kneading, rubbing, squeezing and cupping) are used to stimulate the skin, muscles, nerves and cells of the body, to dislodge wastes, toxins and fluids. Ayurvedic Massage therapies include Pinda Sweda (hot poultices, similar to hot stones), Vasti and Picchu (holding hot oil in a dough ring on a painful area), Shirodhara (hot oil pouring on the head to pacify the nervous system), Marma vital energy point stimulation (similar to acupuncture) and Chakra energy balancing massage with therapeutic oils.
The benefits of Ayurvedic Massage therapies include increased immunity, reducing signs of ageing, relieving anxiety and depression, balancing doshas to cure diseases, and whole person healing.
Highland Ayurveda offers Ayurvedic Massage therapies to patients as part of their Ayurvedic Treatment Plan. Massage is also available to new clients, on a standalone basis for general health and happiness as regular massage relaxes muscles, nerves, bones, digestive system and the whole body, by maintaining the proper balance and circulation of the body gases, generally making life more joyful.

Shirodhara and Healing Head Massage (70mins)
£115
Shirodhara is a technique that uses warm oil poured in a gentle stream over the forehead. This is a profoundly relaxing as it works to calm and pacify the central nervous system stilling the mind and senses. This allows stress to be released and to enhance natural healing. The oil is then massaged into your head with key marma point massage to finish.Recommended for those with high levels of stress, insomnia, anxiety, and Vata imbalances.
Shirodhara primarily influences the central nervous system, particularly the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and autonomic nervous system. The forehead or Third Eye region has a high concentration of nerve endings and is linked to the pineal gland, which regulates melatonin production—the hormone responsible for sleep.
The continuous stream of warm oil activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline) and promoting relaxation. The gentle oil flow induces a meditative state similar to the effects of deep meditation and yoga, lowering brainwave activity from beta (active) to alpha (relaxed state). Shirodhara is a natural and effective therapy for insomnia and sleep disturbances, working by regulating melatonin and calming the nervous system.
Begins with a shoulder and neck massage and finishes with a head massage with key marma points. This is available on its own or with any of the other massages. Recommended 5 to 14 day course for best results.
