Anxiety affects us all at some point in our lives, but for some, it can be constant, causing real suffering. Many who come to see me at Highland Ayurveda, come for other health issues, but anxiety is the common denominator for so many. Whether it is a sense of overwhelm, rapid breathing, panic attacks, night terrors, social anxiety or post traumatic stress it affects virtually all of those who I see. Mental Health UK research shows that over 8 million people in the UK are suffering, with less than half seeking help. From an Ayurvedic perspective, whatever the complaint, the priority is always to connect with the person - to 'enter into the heart', it's a fundamental aspect of healing. That means developing a trusting relationship, actively listening, showing compassion and having a genuine desire to help the person sat in front of you. Once that trust is in place, only then does healing follow, with the individual then empowered to heal themselves by understanding the causative factors, and taking steps to eradicate them. Then making informed dietary and lifestyle choices that are right for them. For many improvements can be seen very quickly within a few months. Listen to Claire's story, it's so good to see her smiling and happy again.
